Tar Heels Release 2018 Schedule
September 28, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL—Head coach Jenny Levy and the University of North Carolina have released the 2018 Tar Heel women's lacrosse schedule. Â
Once again, the schedule is one of the most challenging slates of games in the nation, including the always rigorous Atlantic Coast Conference campaign, as well as non-conference dates against national powers Maryland, Florida and Northwestern.
Carolina is scheduled to play its 2018 home games at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill. Fetzer Field, the Tar Heels' longtime home, is undergoing major renovations during the 2017-18 academic year and will return as UNC's home field for the 2019 season. In the meantime, the women's lacrosse squad will host games in the home stadium of the Carolina football team.
The Tar Heels will open the 2018 season with back-to-back road games at James Madison (February 10) and High Point (February 16), followed by three consecutive home games at Kenan Stadium against Liberty (February 18), defending NCAA champion Maryland (February 24) and Florida (March 3).
Levy and her team will spend most of the rest of March on the road, including the start of the ACC campaign. Road dates that month include games at Virginia (March 10), Elon (March 13), Northwestern (March 17) and Boston College (March 24).
Carolina returns home for three straight games in Chapel Hill in conference play against Virginia Tech (March 28), Notre Dame (March 31) and Louisville (April 7). On the second weekend of April, the Tar Heels will play a pair of contests in Syracuse, N.Y., playing the Syracuse Orange on Saturday April 14 and Canisius on Sunday April 15.
The regular season finale will be a home, Senior Day matchup with rival Duke on Saturday April 21, and the ACC Tournament will be April 26-29 in Durham, N.C., hosted by the Blue Devils.
The Tar Heels will kick off their 2017 fall exhibition schedule later this week on Saturday September 30 against Elon and Duke in Durham. Carolina's fall home debut will come on October 7 against Notre Dame at Finley Fields.Â
Senior and 2017Â Tewaaraton Award finalist Marie McCool, the youngest member of the gold-medal-winning 2017Â United States World Cup team, returns to lead the Tar Heel attack this season. Â Also back is the record-setting Ela Hazar, who broke the UNC school record for assists with 40 last spring. Â
Other key Tar Heels in 2018 should include Maggie Bill, who missed all but 12 games last season due to injury, as well as key defender Erin Kelly, sophomore midfielder Katie Hoeg, junior Kara Klages and the top-rated incoming freshman class in the nation.
