December 16, 2017 | Wrestling
The North Carolina wrestling team returns to dual action Sunday when the Tar Heels visit No. 12 Nebraska Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET at the Devaney Center in Lincoln. Carolina will then continue its midwest swing with a Monday night matchup at 8 ET at No. 15 Northern Iowa.Â
UNC is 1-2 on the year following a 30-6 win over Appalachian State in its last dual competition. The Tar Heels posted a 15th-place finish at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational to open December.
Four Tar Heels are featured in this week's InterMat individual rankings, with No. 4 Troy Heilmann leading the way at 149 pounds. Heilmann is coming off a runner-up showing at CKLV that pushed his record to 13-1 on the year, and the No. 4 ranking is the highest of his career. The redshirt senior is expected to face a pair of top-10 foes on the road trip in No. 8 Colton McCrystal of Nebraska and No. 6 Max Thomsen of UNI. Heilmann beat Thomsen in Las Vegas for a spot in the 149 final.
True freshman Zach Sherman is No. 19 at 133 after placing at CKLV, while redshirt senior Ethan Ramos is No. 9 at 174 and redshirt junior Chip Ness is No. 20 at 184.
Nebraska is 2-1 on the year after dropping a 29-3 dual to NC State on Friday. UNI is 1-1 with a win over North Dakota State in its last dual competition. Sunday's dual will be streamed by BTN2Go and Monday's is on FloWrestling. Both services require a subscription.
