Palermo Secures Diamond Heels Win Over Campbell
April 20, 2022 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL – Davis Palermo tossed three scoreless innings to earn his second save of the season and secure North Carolina's 7-4 victory over Campbell at Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday night. Palermo struck out five and allowed just one hit in his longest outing since March 29.
Angel Zarate and Hunter Stokely drove in two runs each to help the Diamond Heels (23-14) snap the Camels' (22-13) 12-game winning streak.
With the game tied at 2-all in the bottom of the fifth inning, Alberto Osuna ripped base hit to left field to drive home Mac Horvath, who drew two-out walk and stole second to move into scoring position.
Zarate extended Carolina's lead to 5-2 in the sixth with a high chopper that found its way through the right side to knock in a pair of runs. Vance Honeycutt scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice to push the lead to four runs.
Campbell got two runs back in the seventh before Palermo entered. He fanned the first two batters he faced and three of the first five, retiring the first seven batters in order.
Zach Neto got the lone hit off Palermo with one out in the ninth and Logan Jordan walked to bring the tying run to the plate.
Following a visit to the mound from Coach Forbes, Palermo struck out the final two batters to preserve the victory.
