Women's Track & Field Program And Eight Individuals Honored By The USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS - Eight Tar Heels were named All-Academic Individuals and the women's track and field program was named an All-Academic Team for excellence in competition and the classroom during the 2016-17 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
From the men's team, recent graduate RJ Alowonle, his third time receiving the honor, and rising junior Darryl Shaw, his second-straight time receiving the honor, were recognized for their outstanding efforts during this past season.Â
Among those honored from the women's program were recent graduates Emily Godwin and Sarah Howard, who received the honors each year while at Carolina. Rising senior Blake Dodge, her first time receiving the honor, rising juniors Nicole Greene, her second time, Anna Eaton, her first time, and rising sophomore Erin Edmundson were also honored on the women's side.
The women's track and field program was honored for its cumulative team GPA of 3.149.
For individuals to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher, and they must have either finished the indoor regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event, the national top 48 in a relay event or participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships during the outdoor season.
For a team to qualify, a squad must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during the most recent grading period.
