CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina volleyball is pleased to announce the addition of transfer Kendra Koetter to the Tar Heel program beginning this summer. A junior from Marietta, Georgia, Koetter spent her first two seasons at Georgia Southern. The 5-foot-8 setter will be available to compete in 2017 and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"Kendra comes with quite a bit of experience after competing for Georgia Southern," said head coach Joe Sagula. "She is very athletic and as a veteran she will add leadership to our team, which presently has a majority of underclasswomen. Kendra has a great work ethic and is extremely passionate and competitive, which will add to our daily team culture."
Koetter comes to Chapel Hill from Georgia Southern University, where she started all-but-one match last season as a setter and defensive specialist in their 6-2 offense. The Georgia native averaged 5.17 assists and 2.07 digs per set as a sophomore and led the Eagles with 27 aces on the season. The daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter, she tallied nine double-doubles, including a career-high 36 assists and four aces against The Citadel and 21 digs against Troy. Koetter has shared the court with the Tar Heels once before, putting together a strong performance against UNC in the 2016 season opener, where she totaled 14 assists, eight digs and three aces in the three-set match.
A three-time all-state, all-area and All-Gwinnett County selection, she led Wesleyan School to the 2013 State Championship. A 2014 PrepVolleyball High School All-America Special Honorable Mention, she was a Gwinnet Super Six selection as a junior and senior.
Koetter completes the Tar Heel roster for 2017, which includes three incoming freshmen, Raleigh Clark, Maddie Grace Hough and Sehrena Hull. The foursome joins a roster of 13 returning players from the 2016 ACC Champion Tar Heels, including ACC Freshman of the Year Julia Scoles and ACC Player of the Year and Second-Team All-American Taylor Leath.
