Tar Heels Give Miller Win No. 1,500

The North Carolina men's and women's fencing teams earned eight wins at the Ohio State Elite Invitational over the weekend, but one stood out from the rest: On Saturday, the Tar Heels gave UNC coach Ron Miller the 1,500th win of his career.

The UNC women's victory against Northwestern was the milestone win for Miller, now in his 51st season as UNC's head coach. He headed into the 2017-18 season just two short of that mark, and the Tar Heel women quickly earned those on Saturday, beating Cornell 15-12 and then Northwestern 17-10.

For the two-day event, UNC's first dual meets of the season, the Carolina women finished 5-3 and the men were 3-3.

Next up for UNC is the Brandeis Dual Meets on Dec. 3 in Waltham, Mass.
