• Saturday's win was Carolina's 17th in the last 18 meetings with Duke and fourth straight since a 2003 loss to the Blue Devils. Greg Little's 25-yard touchdown run marked the second time in the last six meetings that UNC won on the last play of the game (2002 on a Dan Orner 47-yard field goal).
• Saturday marked just the Tar Heels' second overtime win and first since a 37-34 win over NC State in 1998 in Charlotte. The 20-14 win over the Blue Devils was UNC's first OT win at Kenan Stadium in three tries. Carolina is now 2-3 in five all-time overtime games.
• The Duke victory was Carolina's first win on the final play of the game since the 31-28 victory over Miami in 2004 on 42-yard Connor Barth field goal.
• With the victory, Carolina gained two points towards the Carlyle Cup, the all-sports competition between the Tar Heels and Blue Devils. UNC currently holds an 8-2 lead in the 2007-08 competition.
• With six catches for 38 yards Saturday, sophomore wide receiver Hakeem Nicks set Carolina's single-season reception record with 74 grabs for 958 yards on the season. Nicks set the reception record on a four-yard reception on fourth-and-one in the second quarter to move past Jarwarski Pollock's 71 catches in 2003. Nicks' 958 yards are third on the Tar Heels' single-season list.
• In just his second start at tailback, freshman Greg Little became UNC's first 100-yard rusher on the season with 154 yards on 26 carries. Little tied the game with a seven-yard run in the fourth quarter and won it with a 25-yard carry on the Tar Heels' first offensive play from scrimmage in overtime. Over his two starts at running back, the Durham native rushed for 243 yards.
• Little's 154 rushing yards are the eighth most by freshman in school history and the most since Ronnie McGill ran for 244 against Wake Forest in 2003. Little's 154 yards are the most by a Tar Heel since Chad Scott rushed for 175 yards against Miami in 2004.
• With Little's 100-yard effort, Carolina avoided its first season without a 100-yard rusher since 1966. UNC also entered the 2002 Duke game without a 100-yard runner, but Jacque Lewis ran for 102 yards in a 23-21 victory.
• Junior linebacker Mark Paschal established a career high for the second straight week with 17 tackles versus Duke, which more than doubled his previous best. Paschal had 10 stops in the first half to eclipse his previous career high of seven tackles at Georgia Tech last week. He had 2.5 tackles for loss Saturday.
• Senior linebacker Durell Mapp had 12 tackles for his fifth double-digit tackle effort of the season. He finished with a team-high 132 stops on the season.
• Junior wide receiver Brandon Tate's first-quarter touchdown reception was his fifth receiving TD of the season and his team-high seventh score of the year. Tate also helped set up Greg Little's game-tying score in the fourth with a 32-yard end around in the fourth quarter.
• Senior defensive end Hilee Taylor was credited with half a sack Saturday and finished his senior season with 10.5 sacks on the year to rank fourth in UNC history. Taylor had 1.5 tackles for loss against Duke and finished with a career-high 16 TFL this season.
