Fleury's Walk-Off Hit Gives Harwich Cape Crown

Aug. 15, 2008

HARWICH, Mass. - Rising junior catcher Mark Fleury capped his memorable summer in the Cape Cod League with a walk-off, two-run single Thursday to give the Harwich Mariners their first league title in 21 years. Visit the official site of the Cape Cod League for more details.

Fleury, who was also homered in the Cape all-star game, pinch hit with the bases loaded and delivered the tying and winning runs with a base hit to right center to lift

Harwich to the 2-1 victory. For his efforts, Fleury shared the PA SportsTicker Star of Stars Playoff MVP award with Florida State's Jason Stidham.

Fellow Tar Heels Patrick Johnson and Dustin Ackley, who played 12 games before ending his summer season, were also members of the Mariners.
