WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- Zoe De Bruycker moved to within one win of her second career USTA/ITA Carolina Region title Sunday with a pair of wins at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. De Bruycker defeated South Carolina's Katarina Popova in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-4, before besting teammate Whitney Kay in the semis, 6-2, 6-2.
De Bruycker, who won the event as a sophomore in 2010, will face Duke's Hanna Mar for the title Monday morning at 9. Mar, the No. 3 seed in the event, defeated Clemson's Yana Koroleva in the semifinals, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Kay, who also advanced to the semifinals in doubles with classmate Ashley Dai, won four matches in straight sets this weekend, including a 6-3, 7-5 quarterfinal triumph over Clemson's Romy Koelzer. Kay and Dai, the No. 2-seeded doubles pair, fell to Duke's third-seeded tandem of Mar and Ester Goldfeld in the semifinals, 8-4.
In the other doubles semifinal, Lauren McHale and Tessa Lyons fell to top-seeded Jaklin Alawi and Dominika Kanakova of South Carolina, 8-5.
