Dennis Papadatos Named Assistant Coach
Release: 10/18/2012

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina wrestling head coach C.D. Mock announced the hiring of Dennis Papadatos as an assistant coach with the Tar Heel wrestling program on Thursday.

"We are very excited to have Dennis join our staff at UNC," head coach C.D. Mock said.  "As the former Associate Head Coach at Binghamton, he brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and maturity with him."

Papadatos will work with the upper weight classes at UNC after a very successful stint with Binghamton.  Papadatos spent five years at Binghamton and helped produce 16 NCAA individual qualifiers and a pair of All-Americas.

"With the addition of an upper weight coach, the final piece of the puzzle has been put in place and we look forward to returning to the top of the ACC over the next few years," Mock added.

Binghamton sent six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships in back-to-back years during his final two years before Papadatos stepped away from coaching following the 2010-11 season.

"I am very excited to be at such a special place, the University of North Carolina," Papadatos said. "The wrestling program has such a strong tradition and I plan on putting forth my utmost effort to help get us back to that level of success.  I am honored to wear the school colors and represent the University, Athletic Department and wrestling program with honor and pride."

Prior to his time at Binghamton, Papadatos was an assistant coach at Northern Illinois where he spent the 2005-06 season as an assistant coach for the Huskies.

Papadatos spent three seasons working as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Hofstra.

As an undergraduate, Papadatos was a four-year starter for the Hofstra wrestling team - one of the East Coast's premier programs. During his tenure at Hofstra, Papadatos amassed 97 career victories en route to two appearances in the NCAA Division I wrestling championships at 157 pounds. He was also a three-time member of the Division I Academic All-America wrestling team (1999-2001).

A certified personal trainer, Papadatos graduated from Hofstra in 2000 with a degree in exercise physiology and completed a master's in health education from Hofstra in 2002.

A native of Long Island, N.Y., Dennis and his wife Angela are the proud parents of their four-year-old daughter Gabriella, two-year-old son Apostoli and infant son Yianni.
