Women Fencers Face Top Competition, Win Two

The UNC women were 2-3 at the Duke Dual Meets on Sunday in Durham, N.C.

The Tar Heels lost their first three meets to top-ten ranked opponents before bouncing back to win their last two 12-15. In the first competition, Carolina faced off with No. 1 Penn State, dropping the match 6-21. The UNC women then fell 10-17 to No. 8 Temple, 10-17 and 5-22 to No. 10 Duke. The Tar Heels won the next two matches backed by strong efforts on saber and epee. Carolina took down Brandeis and Air Force, each by a 15-12 margin.

The women's meet on Sunday finished a weekend of fencing for the Tar Heels, where the men finished 1-4 on Saturday. Carolina fences again at the National Squad Championships in New York on Feb. 26.
