Twenty-four members of the North Carolina men's and women's fencing squads will compete Saturday at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals in Easton, Pa., in hopes of earning spots at the NCAA Championship March 22-25 in Columbus, Ohio.
Hosted by Lafayette College, the NCAA Regionals run throughout the day on Saturday. The officially announcement of NCAA Championships qualification will follow on Tuesday.
UNC competitors, who qualified for Regionals based on their performance during the season, are:
Men's foil: Joseph Alter, Kevin Nadeau, Harry Adams and Ian Kanar
Men's epee: Maxwell Tice-Lewis, Daniel Giles, Hayden Haberle and Parker Williams
Men's sabre: Sam Austin, Jonathan Blake, Nate Wiecha and Aaron Pritchard
Women's foil: Heather Van Wallendael, Camilla Powierza, Brianna Osinski and Wynton Wong
Women's epee: Lidea Shahidi, Kacie Albert, Alexandria Mead and Shannon Beamon
Women's sabre: Gillian Litynski, Sara Leung and Gladys Manzur
Alter and Nadeau are the only ones in the group who have advanced to the NCAA Championships. Alter finished 23rd in men's foil in 2011. Nadeau was 22nd in men's foil as a sophomore in 2010
