A two-year returning letter winner who has started in the defense each of her first two years as a Tar Heel • had a breakthrough campaign for the Tar Heels in 2012, helping Carolina claim a national championship • a Top 20 national recruit in the Class of 2011 according to Top Drawer Soccer • UNC coaches call her a natural defender.

Sophomore Season (2012)

Started all 23 games for the Tar Heels on defense • led Carolina in minutes played with 2,081 • over the 20 games of the season she subbed out of games only three times, twice in games where the Tar Heels had comfortable leads and once for four minutes against Virginia due to injury • named to All-Tournament Team at Notre Dame adidas Classic • saved her best performance for last, recording her first career points in national championship game win over Penn State • assisted on Kealia Ohai's goal less than two minutes into the game and then scored on a rebound midway through the second half to give the Tar Heels a 3-1 lead • named Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the 2012 NCAA College Cup • earned spot on All-Tournament Team at NCAA College Cup.

Freshman Season (2011)

Played in 17 games, missing three games after being injured in the Ohio State game • did not see action against UNCG, Texas A&M and NC State • started 14 games before the Tar Heels reconfigured their lineup for the NCAA Tournament • she came off the bench in a key reserve role in the post-season • was amongst the UNC leaders in minutes played with 1,257 • played the full 90 minutes against Nebraska, Ohio State and Clemson.

ODP & Club Soccer

Member of Lonestar '93 Red club team since 2009 • led team to state championships in 2010 & 2011 • named to 2009 adidas ESP All-Star Team • 2010 ECNL All-Event Team selection • named best defender at 2011 UIL All-District event • honored on the 2010 NSCAA Youth All-Region Soccer Team.


2011 graduate of McNeil High School in Austin, Texas • since 2007, she played right, left and center back and forward when needed • also played point guard in basketball and ran sprints and relays on the track team • had a best time of 12.51 seconds in the 100 meters • earned academic All-District honors as a senior • graduated as a Texas Scholar in the Distinguished Achievement Program.


Satara Melonie Murray was born July 1, 1993 in Brooklyn, N.Y. • the daughter of Glenda Prince • psychology major • senior acolyte at St. Paul's Episcopal Church • played clarinet in middle school • her aunt, Melonie Murray, ran track for Jamaica.
