Chapel Hill - Head coach Jenny Levy has released the 2013 University of North Carolina women's lacrosse schedule, a slate that features at least eight games against 2012 NCAA Tournament teams in Florida, Towson, Northwestern, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Duke, Maryland and Navy.
UNC also will host the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament at Fetzer Field, and the Tar Heels will face three of the four 2012 NCAA semifinalists in national champion Northwestern, Florida and Maryland.
"We are excited about our schedule," Levy says. "Every year when we schedule outside the ACC, we try to find great competition to challenge our team. Playing three of last year's Final Four teams and eight NCAA Tournament opponents certainly will challenge us.
"Northwestern and Florida are the top two teams in the ALC, Penn is a consistent power in the Ivy League and Georgetown not only beat us last year but also is always strong in the Big East," Levy continues.
The Tar Heels' home slate will include matchups with Florida (Feb. 9), Towson (Feb. 15), Richmond (Feb. 17), Northwestern (Feb. 22), Virginia (March 9), Georgetown (March 16), Cornell (March 20), Boston College (March 23), Navy (April 10) and Jacksonville (April 12). The 2013 ACC Tournament will be April 25, 26 and 28 at Fetzer Field.
The road schedule includes dates at Penn (March 2), High Point (March 12), Duke (March 28), Virginia Tech (March 31), Maryland (April 6) and Vanderbilt (April 20).
The Tar Heels will play seven night games starting at 7 p.m. in 2013. "We hope playing more night games will help generate some great crowds," Levy says. "As the sport continues to grow in North Carolina our crowds have gotten better in recent years. Hopefully that will continue."
