Women Golfers 5th In Golfstat Poll

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team is ranked fifth in the latest Golfstat poll and sixth in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.  The Tar Heels opened up their spring campaign with a win at the UCF Challenge marking their third consecutive win.  Carolina won its last two tournaments of the fall campaign, the Liz Murphey Fall Preview and the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.

Junior Casey Grice has finished in the top 15 in all five of Carolina's tournaments this year.   She was the runner-up at the Liz Murphey Fall Preview, tied for fifth at the UCF Challenge and tied for seventh at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.  Grice, from College Station, Texas, leads the Tar Heels with a 72.47 scoring average.  Junior Jackie Chang, from Scottsdale, Ariz., has carded five top-25 finishes.  Her top two performances came in the last two tournaments as she tied for eighth at the UCF Challenge and tied for ninth at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.  Junior Katherine Perry and freshman Elizabeth Mallett led the Tar Heels in the first spring event as both tied for third place at the UCF Challenge.  Mallett, from Sutton Coldfield, England, tied for 15th place at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, the final event of the fall, while Perry, from Cary, N.C., tied for 19th.  Maia Schechter, a sophomore from Takoma Park, Md., led the Tar Heels at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational as she placed sixth. 

Earlier in the fall, Carolina finished in 10th place at the Mason Rudolph Championship and tied for ninth place at the Cougar Classic.
