The University of North Carolina women's golf team is ranked 22nd in the latest Golf World/NGCA (National Golf Coaches Association) that was released Wednesday. The Tar Heels finished in 10th place at the Mason Rudolph Championship after tying for ninth place at the Cougar Classic earlier in the fall.
Carolina will be participating in the Liz Murphey Fall Preview this Friday through Sunday. The 54-hole event will be played at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships, which features a par 72, 6,335-yard layout. Play begins at 8:00 Friday morning and the Tar Heels will begin teeing off at 9:40 off the #10 tee.Casey Grice, a junior from College Station, Texas, has led the Tar Heels in their first two outings. Grice tied for 13th place at the Mason Rudolph Championship and tied for 14th at the Cougar Classic. She leads Carolina with a 73.33 scoring average. Not far behind Grice is Jackie Chang who boasts a 74.00 average. Chang, a junior from Paradise Valley, Ariz., also tied for 14th place at the Cougar Classic and tied for 23rd at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Freshman Elizabeth Mallett, from Sutton Coldfield, England, tied for 36th place at the Cougar Classic while tying for 51st at the Mason Rudolph. Junior Katherine Perry, from Cary, N.C., also tied for 51st at the Mason Rudolph Championship after tying for 71st at the Cougar Classic. Maia Schechter, a sophomore from Takoma Park, Md., tied for 71st at the Mason Rudolph while freshman Samantha Marks, from Maitland, Fla., tied for 93rd at the Cougar Classic.
