Carolina Visits NC State Sunday On ESPN2
Release: 02/15/2014
North Carolina will look to post a perfect 3-0 record this week when it takes the short trip to Raleigh to play at NC State on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., on ESPN2.

No. 17/10 North Carolina (19-6, 7-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) has already earned victories at No. 3 Duke on Monday and at home to Pittsburgh on Thursday. A victory Sunday would mean a season sweep and the sixth-straight win in the series over the Wolfpack.

UNC owns a 10-2 record at Reynolds Coliseum dating back to the 2001-02 season. Prior to that year, the Tar Heels were just 4-25 against NC State in Raleigh going back to 1974.

Freshman Allisha Gray has been white hot in recent games, averaging 21.7 points and 8.7 rebounds over the last three contests. She has scored at least 20 points in each of those games and had back-to-back double-doubles performances on the road. She put together a 24-point, 10-rebound performance in the win against the Blue Devils in Durham this past Monday night. Gray ranks second on the team with 14.9 ppg and is fifth in the conference in 3FG percentage at 41.2%.

The Tar Heels have been particularly effective away from Chapel Hill this season, recording a 5-1 record in true road games. The only loss was a 94-91 setback at Georgia Tech on Feb. 6. UNC owns away victories this season over UCLA, No. 18 Florida State and the third-ranked Blue Devils.

On the flip side, No. 10/13 NC State (22-3, 9-2) is a perfect 13-0 this season at home. Among its highlights at Reynolds this season are victories over nationally ranked Maryland and LSU.

Sunday's game is a Play 4Kay breast cancer awareness event. Five dollars from every ticket sold will go directly to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a group which has raised $2.6 million for scientific research and related programs focused on women's cancers.

The Tar Heels play at Virginia on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., on RSN/ESPN3. Carolina returns home to play host to Virgnia Tech next Sunday at 2 p.m., on ESPN3.
