Carolina Hosts Maryland Sunday In Top-10 Tilt

CHAPEL HILL - In the only matchup of two top-10 ranked teams this weekend in Division I women's basketball, two of the premier programs in the sport - No. 10 North Carolina and No. 8 Maryland - will square off Sunday for the final time as fellow members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Tip off from Carmichael Arena is scheduled for 3 p.m., on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app.

This game will be the first Sunday Funday of the season. The first 250 kids will be able to eat for free, enjoy a face painter and airbrush tattoo artist before the game and a post-game autograph session with the team. Halftime of Sunday's game will feature a Shag dancers from clubs all over the state of North Carolina. Sunday will be the 75th meeting between the two schools and the only scheduled game of the 2013-14 regular season. Maryland is leaving the ACC for the Big Ten later this summer.

Carolina (12-2) holds a slim 38-36 advantage in the all-time series with the Terrapins, but has been fairly consistent at home with a 21-9 record against Maryland, and 11-2 in the last 13 contests in Chapel Hill.

This heavy weight bout features a pair of teams that rank not only in the top 10 in the Associated Press poll, but also in a variety of statistical categories. Carolina ranks second in the country in steals per game (14.1) and field-goal percentage defense (31.3%). The Tar Heels also check in seventh on the offensive side of the ball in both scoring (88.4 ppg) and scoring margin (+28.2 ppg).

Maryland (12-1) ranks second in the nation in rebound margin (+17.2), third in scoring margin (+30.5), fourth in field-goal percentage (49.6%), sixth in assists (20.6 per game) and eighth in scoring (86.9 ppg).

The Tar Heels enter conference play having won seven games in a row, while Maryland has won 10 straight.

Carolina wraps up its four-game home stand on Thursday against NC State at 6 p.m, on The Wolfpack own a 13-1 record leading into Sunday's game against No. 20 Syracuse in Raleigh.
