North Carolina 103, High Point 71
Associate Head Coach Andrew Calder
"It was a hard-fought battle today. I thought High Point came out and played very hard and very physical, and I thought we responded to that. [We] came off a tough, physical game on Wednesday night against South Carolina, and I think we took that physical mentality into this game. I'm really proud of the girls. I thought we made some good plays out there tonight. As far as High Point goes, I wish them the best of luck. They're well coached. An assistant on their team has worked at our camps for twenty-some years, so best of luck to them.
I appreciate Coach [Sylvia] Hatchell being at the game today. That was really exciting. I want to thank her again for continuing to help us as we go into each game. She helps us with the game plan and the motivation of the players. She's doing a great job, and we really appreciate her being here today."
On how much contact Coach Hatchell has had with the team
"Last Sunday she greeted them as they left to go to the beach. Then she was here at the office yesterday for about two hours...she does communicate with texts with them [the team] on a regular basis."
On the balanced scoring effort
"That was impressive. The team did a good job of finding the open players. I thought they did a really good job with that. I would've liked to have seen a little more movement versus their zone, but overall we did a pretty good job. I think the team looked to find the open players...
The team continues to work hard. They came back Wednesday night and had tough weights on Thursday. They came to practice yesterday and worked extremely hard. [It's been] nine days in a row, so it's been tough, but they've responded all the way. I'm really proud of them going into Christmas break."
North Carolina Player Quotes
Xylina McDaniel, So. F
On the feeling of having Coach Hatchell at the game
"It was exciting. We found out before the game so everybody was really excited. We just miss her a lot so being able to see her face before the game was exciting."
On adjusting after DeShield's injury
"I think that also gave us a lot of energy. Whenever one of our players gets hurt during the game, it's like now we have to play not just for Coach Hatchell but now that player that's out. I think we adjusted well, it wasn't that hard because we were used to playing with each other, but it was different because you're so used to her being on the court with you. But I think we adjusted pretty well.

On adjusting to college basketball
"Just by playing point guard thinking two plays ahead, the speed, and the tempo. The game is a lot quicker so just thinking ahead all the time and making good decisions."
On how scoring triple digits affects motivation
"Playing with the team, playing good defense to get us going gets you points, rebounds and assists. It's pretty big motivation to just keep going and try to get triple digits."
