The Tar Heels improved to 3-1 on Thursday with a 106-52 victory over Coastal Carolina. The 106 points scored is the most by the program since the regular season opener of the 2011-12 season when UNC scored 109 points in a victory over Gardner-Webb.
Freshman Stephanie Mavunga was a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor in the victory. That is the best shooting percentage in the ACC this season in terms of most made field goals without a miss in a single game.
She ranks among the top-3 in the league in blocks, rebounds and field goal shooting, and is 13th in scoring. Mavunga leads the ACC with 3.3 bocks, has hauled in 10.8 rebounds per game and is shooting 70.6 percent for the season.
Danielle Butts made her season debut against the Chanticleers, scoring 11 points and grabbing three rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.
Carolina will travel to Cancun, Mexico, next week to compete in the Cancun Challenge Thursday-Saturday with games against Arkansas State, Arizona State and Illinois. All three games will be streamed live.
