UNC Tops Eagles 85-57 On Senior Night
Release: 02/28/2013

CHAPEL HILL --- Seniors Waltiea Rolle and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt led the No. 15 North Carolina women's basketball to a 85-57 Senior Night victory over Boston College Thursday at Carmichael Arena.

Rolle topped the Tar Heels with 21 points while Ruffin-Pratt contributed 20, as UNC (26-4, 14-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) powered past the Eagles (10-18, 4-13 ACC) to clinch no worse than a share of second place in the ACC.

Rounding out Carolina's senior trio, forward Krista Gross finished the game with seven points and seven rebounds. The Tar Heels shot 46 percent on the night, controlling the tempo for nearly all of the game.

Brittany Rountree added 13 points, shooting 2 for 4 from the three-point line in the first half, while fellow sophomore Danielle Butts put up nine points. Xylina McDaniel led UNC in boards with nine, as the Tar Heels outrebounded the Eagles 46-29.

Carolina jumped out to a quick lead with four points underneath the basket. After a brief fight by the Eagles, who attacked initially from the perimeter, UNC went on a 27-6 run in the middle of the first half.

Ruffin-Pratt controlled the lane and scored 12 points in the first half alone, as UNC shot 45.2 percent before the break. Then the Tar Heels led the Eagles 40-21 and started the second half with two quick layups before again controlling the game with a quick pace.

Rolle sank her first career three-pointer with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game and notched three blocks in the effort.

The Tar Heels, who rank second in the NCAA in steals per game, once again used speed to their advantage and finished the game with 18 steals. UNC also capitalized on Boston College errors, scoring 30 points off turnovers.

Carolina moves on to play its final ACC game of the regular season Sunday against Duke in Durham, N.C., at 4 p.m.
