ATLANTA --- North Carolina senior guard Tierra Ruffin-Pratt was named one of seven nominees from Region 2 for the 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team, the WBCA announced Tuesday. Ruffin-Pratt led the Tar Heels to a 28-6 record in 2012-13, a trip to the ACC Tournament title game and the No. 3 seed in the Bridgeport Region of the NCAA Championship.
A dynamic senior who has had a breakout final season in Chapel Hill, Ruffin-Pratt established herself as one of the nation's best all-around players. She earned first-team All-ACC honors for her play in the regular season and first-team all-tournament accolades for her performance at the ACC Tournament in Greensboro
The Alexandria, Va., senior ranks in the top 15 in the ACC in scoring, assists, steals, blocks and assist/turnover ratio. She ranks fifth in the ACC in scoring and has scored in double figures in 30 of 33 games after entering the season averaging just 6.7 points per game over her first three seasons. Ruffin-Pratt also continues to be one of the best distributors in the ACC, ranked seventh in assists with 4.4 per game.
Despite her vastly increased scoring output, Ruffin-Pratt's defense has only gotten better as a senior. She has at least one steal in 31 of 33 games and has multiple steals in 24 games for a team that is second in the nation in steals.
Ruffin-Pratt is joined in Region 2 by Duke teammates Chelsea Gray and Elizabeth Williams, Maryland's Alyssa Thomas and Tianna Hawkins, Georgia Tech's Tyaunna Marshall and Delaware's Elena Della Donne.
The 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT Saturday April 6, during NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in New Orleans Arena.
