Rolle Named To ACC All-Defensive Team
Release: 03/06/2013

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina senior center Waltiea Rolle was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Defensive Team, league commissioner John Swofford announced Wednesday. Rolle, who was also an all-defensive selection in 2011, joins Nikita Bell as the only two-time picks in Carolina history.

The Nassau, Bahamas, native is 10th in ACC history in career blocked shots with 243. With 70 blocks so far in 2012-13, Rolle owns three of the 11 highest single-season totals ever at UNC. Her 82 blocks in 2010-11 rank seventh all-time at Carolina.

Rolle has been part of a revitalized defensive effort for Carolina in 2012-13. The Tar Heels are second in the country in steals, 14th in blocks and 32nd in field goal percentage defense. The numbers look even better when adjusted for Carolina's up-tempo style, as the Tar Heels are ninth in the country in points allowed per possession. According to WBBstate.com, UNC allows just 0.74 points per opponent possession while averaging 79.5 possessions per game, sixth-most nationally.

Rolle and the Tar Heels open the 2013 ACC Tournament on Friday at 8 p.m. against the winner of Virginia and Boston College.
