No. 15 UNC Opens 2013 With No. 8 Terps

CHAPEL HILL ---North Carolina puts its six-game winning streak on the line Thursday when the Tar Heels host Maryland at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Arena. Carolina is 13-1 on the year and 1-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play following a 65-58 win at Clemson on Sunday. Maryland is 10-2 (1-0 ACC) on the season after a 72-40 win over Hartford on Saturday. UNC is ranked No. 15 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and No. 23 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll. Maryland is ranked No. 8 in both polls.

MARYLAND SERIES NOTES
• North Carolina is 36-35 all-time against Maryland, including a 20-9 mark in Chapel Hill.
• After meeting just once in the regular season for six straight seasons, Carolina and Maryland returned to playing a home-and-home series in 2012. The Terps took both games last season - 78-72 in overtime in Chapel Hill and 84-64 in College Park.
• Maryland has won four straight in the series and six of the last seven, Carolina's worst run of form against the Terps since losing eight in a row from 1988-1991.

• Carolina ranks in the top 10 in the nation in steals (2nd), blocks (5th) and field-goal percentage defense (7th).
• Freshman Xylina McDaniel has been named ACC Rookie of the Week a league-best three times in 2012-13. She leads all ACC freshmen in scoring (13.2 ppg), rebounding (8.5 rpg) and steals (2.8 spg).

CLEMSON, S.C. --- Xylina McDaniel had 19 points, six rebounds and six steals and No. 16 North Carolina rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Clemson, 65-58, Sunday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. Waltiea Rolle added 16 points and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt finished with 15 points, six boards and six steals as Carolina won its first league game for the 17th time in 19 years.

TAR HEELS IN CARMICHAEL ARENA
• Carolina is 417-93 all-time in Carmichael, including a 44-10 record since the building re-opened after being closed for renovations from March 2008 to December 2009.
• The Tar Heels have won at least 13 home games in each of the last 11 seasons, including a school-record 18 during an undefeated 2007-08 home campaign.
• UNC has lost just 19 home games since the start of the 2001-02 season. The Tar Heels have been even more stingy against non-conference opponents, losing at home just twice outside of league play in the last decade.

CAROLINA AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
• Carolina is 126-203 all-time against opponents ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, including a 2-1 mark in 2012-13.
• Since the start of the 2004-05 season, Carolina is 47-37 against ranked opponents. The Tar Heels have 19 wins against teams in the top 10 of the AP poll during that stretch, including 13 wins over teams in the top five.
• UNC's most recent top-5 win came against Duke last season in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels beat the fifth-ranked Blue Devils, 62-60. Carolina's last road win over a top-5 team was an 80-79 victory over No. 2 Oklahoma in the final of the 2008 Preseason WNIT.
