McDaniel Named ACC Rookie Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina freshman forward Xylina McDaniel has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

McDaniel earned her third ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after averaging 15 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in North Carolina's 2-0 week. She led the Tar Heels with a career-high 19 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 65-58 win at Clemson in both teams' ACC opener. She fueled a 19-2 second-half run that helped the Tar Heels rally from a 10-point deficit and defeat the Tigers in Clemson.

McDaniel also contributed 11 points in 16 minutes in UNC's 88-45 win over East Tennessee State on Dec. 28.

Carolina is back in action Thursday, Jan. 3, as the Tar Heels host Maryland at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Arena.
