UNC Visits Iowa For WNIT Title

IOWA CITY --- North Carolina will look to win its second Preseason WNIT title Sunday when the Tar Heels visit Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 4 p.m. ET. Carolina advanced to the championship game with a 63-48 win over No. 25 Georgetown on Wednesday night. Iowa defeated Middle Tennessee in overtime, 69-63, to earn its spot in the final. Sunday's game will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network (DirecTV 613, Time Warner Cable 537 in the Chapel Hill area).

• North Carolina is 1-2 all-time against Iowa, but the two teams have never met in Iowa City. Both Iowa wins came in the state of South Carolina.
• The Tar Heels won the last meeting in the series, a 79-67 final in Chapel Hill in the 2010 ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Italee Lucas scored a career-high 34 points to lead the Tar Heels.

• Carolina is playing in the Preseason WNIT for the second time in 2012 after winning the tournament title in 2008.
• The Tar Heels are 7-0 overall in the event, with a 6-0 record in Chapel Hill.
• UNC defeated Western Carolina, VCU, Xavier and Oklahoma to claim the 2008 title. The first three games were held in the Smith Center due to construction at Carmichael Arena. The Tar Heels defeated No. 2 Oklahoma, 80-79, in Norman, in the final and started the 2008-09 season 17-0. Jessica Breland scored 31 points to lead Carolina and earned tournament MVP honors. Teammate Rashanda McCants was also named to the all-tournament team.

CHAPEL HILL (AP) --- Brittany Rountree knocked down six 3-pointers en route to 22 points and Krista Gross grabbed 15 rebounds as North Carolina defeated No. 25 Georgetown 63-48 Wednesday. Megan Buckland added 13 points for the Tar Heels, who improve to 7-0 in the Preseason WNIT after winning the tournament in 2008. UNC held Georgetown (2-1) to 23.5 percent (16 of 68) from the field and outrebounded the Hoyas 53-42.
