ACC Releases 2012-13 Schedule
Release: 09/06/2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- An expanded league schedule and a trip to Tennessee highlight the 2012-13 North Carolina women's basketball schedule as announced Thursday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Carolina will play at least 13 televised games during the regular season, with national broadcasts for games against Miami (Jan. 27, ESPN2), Duke (Feb. 3, ESPNU; March 3, ESPN2), Georgia Tech (Feb. 10, ESPNU) and NC State (Feb. 24, ESPNU) featured on the ledger.

The Tar Heels will play a pair of exhibition contests against Carson-Newman (Oct. 28) and Wingate (Nov. 1) before opening the season against Davidson in the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 9. Other potential opponents in the WNIT include Delware, Georgetown, Iowa and Middle Tennessee. Carolina is guaranteed at least three home games in the tournament and a potential final would be played Nov. 18 with national TV coverage by CBS Sports Network.

Carolina will close out November at home against Ohio State on Nov. 28 in the sixth-annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge before traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., to take on the Lady Vols on Dec. 2. That game will mark the first meeting between the two storied programs since UNC lost a thrilling 83-79 decision to UT on Dec. 2, 2007.

Other non-conference hightlights include the annual pre-Christmas trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a rare midweek morning game against North Carolina Central. The Tar Heels will play at Coastal Carolina on Dec. 16 before facing East Carolina at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center three days later. The NC Central game is set for Dec. 12 at 11 a.m.

After returning to a traditional 16-game ACC schedule for the 2011-12 season, the league will move to an 18-game slate for the first time in 2012-13. Carolina will play home-and-home series against Duke, NC State, Maryland, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Boston College. Virginia and Wake Forest are the two teams that will travel to Chapel Hill without a return game, while the Tar Heels will play lone road games at Clemson and Miami.

Once again in 2013, the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum. The four-day event, which will be televised on RSN and ESPN2, is set for March 7-10.

Season tickets for Carolina women's basketball are on sale now at the Ticket Center.
