CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina volleyball team continued spring play at the Endless Summer Collegiate Tournament this Saturday in Virginia Beach, Va. The Tar Heels defeated two teams and split two matches.
- UNC split with UVA, 25-21 and 22-25
- UNC defeated James Madison, 25-17 and 26-24
- UNC split with Maryland, 22-25 and 25-14
- UNC defeated George Mason, 25-17 and 25-17
"The weekend was successful as we faced some different level opponents and had to find different ways to win sets," head coach Joe Sagula said. "The event at the Tidewater Volleyball facility was well run and it was great to see so many ACC and east coast teams, and to evaluate where we are at this point in our development."
"I like the way the young team played with confidence through the day, especially being down 21-24 to JMU. This young group found a way to compete at a high level and win that set coming from behind with some great blocking by Hayley McCorkle and Victoria McPherson, along with clutch hitting by Lauren Adkins, Kayla Berringer and Chaniel Nelson. I thought our defense responded well in that set and through the afternoon's play with improved play and a relentless attitude that set the tone for the day's competition," Sagula said.
The Tar Heels are looking forward to building on their spring training and tournament play as they prepare for their last spring event. UNC hosts NC State, Charlotte and William & Mary on Saturday, April 20, with matches beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Carmichael Arena.
