GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina freshman middle blocker Paige Neuenfeldt has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, and Miami senior setter Nrithya Sundararaman and NC State sophomore outside hitter Dariyan Hopper have been named the Co-Players of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.
Neuenfeldt, named the Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season, hit .476 with 25 kills and 42 attempts and added five blocks as North Carolina swept Virginia Tech and Virginia. Against the Hokies, the Birmingham, Mich., native had 15 kills while hitting .500. She added 10 kills one day later against the Cavaliers, her fifth straight double-digit performance and 14th overall in her rookie campaign.
Sundararaman continued her strong season with 11.50 assists per set (69 overall) in two sweeps over the weekend. In addition to 34 assists against Boston College, the setter connected on a season-high five kills in seven attempts to go with seven digs. The Naperville, Ill., native collected nine digs and 35 assists versus Maryland to help the Hurricanes finish the regular season undefeated at home. Sundararaman ranks third in Miami volleyball history with 2,257 assists and leads the ACC averaging 10.68 assists per set this season.
Hopper led NC State's offensive attack in a pair of conference home wins over the weekend, guaranteeing the Wolfpack its first winning record in conference play since 1988. Hopper had 10 kills and hit .400 in a 3-0 sweep of Virginia on Friday night and then posted a career-high 23 kills in a come-from-behind win over Virginia Tech on Saturday. After the Hokies won the first two sets, Hopper led the way as the Wolfpack won the final three and the match. For the week, the Shorewood, Ill., native hit .382 on 68 attempts and had 4.13 kills per set.
