RS Senior Season: Returned from injury to play in 99 sets and start 29 matches • Named an AVCA Second Team All-American, the second Tar Heel in history to earn full AVCA All-America honors • Selected to the AVCA East Coast Division I All-Region team • Named a First Team All-ACC member • Led the team with 290 kills and 2.93 kills/set • Recorded a season high 19 kills vs. Georgia Tech (10/26) and a season high nine blocks vs. Pittsburgh (10/3) • Led the team in kills in 10 matches • Named the ACC Player of the Week on 10/6 and 12/1 • Selected as a Senior CLASS First Team All-American after earning one of 10 finalists spots and finishing second in online voting.

RS Junior Season: Earned the Jean E. Kindy Memorial team award • Missed the 2013-14 season due to injury.

RS Sophomore Season: 2012 All-ACC Team selection • Named to all-tournament team and named MVP of the 2012 Aggie Invite  • Named to 2012 Carolina Classic All-Tournament Team • Ranked second on the team with 123 blocks (1.02/set) and attack (.236), and third in kills (278, 2.30/set) • Recorded 17 kills twice (vs. Western Michigan, 9/8, and at Duke, 10/26) and had 10 blocks at Iowa State (11/30).
RS Freshman Season: 2011 All-ACC Team selection • 2011 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention • 2011 AVCA All-East Region honoree • Amassed 329 kills, the second best total on the team • Netted a team-high 119 blocks • Finished 10th in the ACC in block average (1.03) • Registered double-digit kills in 16 matches, with 10 blocks in a match twice • Posted 16 kills and 10 blocks (26 points) in the 2011 NCAA Tournament vs. No. 10 Cal • 2011 Tar Heel Classic All-Tournament team selection • Earned a spot on the USA Women's National A2 Team • COBRA Magazine All-East Region.

Freshman Season: Redshirted in 2010 • Enjoyed a breakout spring from the opposite side position • Earned a spot on the USA Women's Volleyball Junior A2 Team that competed in the European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia in July of 2011.

Prep: Two-time I-Meck all-conference and offensive MVP at Hopewell High School • All-Mecklenburg County in 2008 and 2009 • Ranked No. 77 nationally in prepvolleyball.com's Top-100 Senior Aces • Two-time honoree of Charlotte Observer's All-Star Team.

Personal: Communications major and history minor • Participates in the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy in the Veteran Leaders program • team representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and in charge of team outreach • Founder of UNC S.W.A.G. program, which collaborates with the CLA to promote student wellness • Has one brother and her father played basketball at Farleigh Dickinson • Chaniel Lea Nelson is the daughter of Daniel and Cheryl Nelson • Born Aug. 19, 1992, in Elizabeth, N.J.
