North Carolina and its conference rivals will battle for the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship on Saturday at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. Clemson is hosting the event for the 10th time in the 13 years the ACC has sponsored a rowing championship.
Virginia, ranked No. 1 nationally throughout the 2012 season, is the favorite in the event. The Cavaliers have the fastest times this season in all four races: the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight.
Virginia has captured 44 of the 48 races held in the previous 12 ACC Rowing Championships and has won all but one conference crown, the exception being 2009, when Clemson won.
Racing starts at 9 a.m. with the varsity four, in which UNC is seeded fourth. The novice eight is at 9:20, with Carolina the fifth seed. UNC is also the fifth seed in the second varsity eight, starting at 9:40. In the varsity eight at 10 a.m., UNC is seeded sixth.
