EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore Cameron Overstreet took 16th in the women's pole vault Friday, claiming second-team All-America honors to lead Carolina and close out the Tar Heels' showing at the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Historic Heyward Field.
Overstreet cleared 13-7 1/4 (4.15m), setting an outdoor PR and earning her first All-America nod.
"Cameron competed very well, and this is a great confidence builder for her for future NCAA championships," assistant coach Josh Langley said. "We're incredibly proud of her performance today."
Overstreet qualified for the NCAA championships in exciting fashion, winning a jump-off at the NCAA East Preliminary meet to advance to Eugene. She finished second at both the ACC indoor and outdoor meets, earning All-ACC honors in addition to her All-ACC Academic honors as a sophomore and freshman.
Senior Brianna Hudson capped a successful UNC career in her first NCAA appearance on Friday, jumping a season-high 41-10 (12.75m) in the triple jump to take 19th. Hudson is a two-time NCAA first round qualifier and a two-time All-ACC jumper.
Sophomore Tristine Johnson closed out her second NCAA appearance with a leap of 41-0 (12.51m) to take 23rd in the event.
