URBANA, ILL. - North Carolina sophomore Esben Hess-Olesen will begin play in the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship Wednesday at the University of Illinois.
The native of Viby, Denmark is one of 64 players to earn singles invitations. He will play his Round of 64 match Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. CDT (9 a.m. EDT) against Jonas Lutjen of the University of Mississippi.
The winner of that match will advance to the Round of 32 on Thursday to play the victor of a first-round match between Stephane Piro of Florida and Kyle McMorrow of Washington.
This marks Hess-Olesen's first appearance in the NCAA Championships as an individual. In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, Lutjen is ranked 20th in the nation while Hess-Olesen is rated 51st.
