GREENSBORO, N.C. -North Carolina will open 2013 ACC Tournament play Thursday against Miami at 9 a.m. in the opening round. The Tar Heels (11-12 overall, 4-6 ACC) head into the tournament on a two-match winning streak and winners of four of their past six.
The Tar Heels had a successful weekend, beating #25 Wake Forest Friday 5-2 in Winston-Salem before downing Boston College Sunday on Senior Day at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Top-ranked Virginia, winner of a record 103 consecutive matches versus Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, headlines the field for the 2013 ACC Men's Tennis Championship, which gets under way Thursday, April 25 at Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park.
The top-seeded Cavaliers (21-0, 10-0 ACC) will be going after their seventh straight ACC title, and is one of five ACC teams among the nation's top 30 in the latest ITA national rankings. Other teams receiving first round byes include Duke (21-4, 9-1) with the No. 2 seed and Wake Forest (18-7, 7-3) with the No. 3 seed.
The tournament will also include the nation's top two doubles teams in Virginia's Jarmere Jenkins and Mac Styslinger at No. 1, and Duke's Henrique Cunha and Raphael Hemmeler at No. 2, along with the nation's top two singles players. Virginia's Jenkins (No. 1), Alex Domijan (No. 2), and Styslinger (No. 23), Duke's Cunha (No. 5),and Clemson's Yannick Maden (No. 24) all currently stand among the nation's top 25 singles players.
