The University of North Carolina will play a 23-match schedule during the 2013 dual match men's tennis season. The schedule was finalized this past week and announced on Sunday.
The Tar Heels will face a difficult non-conference schedule of 13 matches as well as the challenging 10-team Atlantic Coast Conference docket. With Maryland dropping men's tennis after last school year, all ACC teams now play balanced schedules with five home matches and five road matches. Carolina's home ACC matches are against NC State, Duke, Miami, Florida State and Boston College.
The non-conference includes three home doubleheaders on January 19, February 9 and February 24. UNC opens its 2013 season against Wofford and Gardner-Webb in Chapel Hill on January 19.
UNC will participate in the ITA Kickoff event at Champaign, Ill. on January 25 and 26, facing Tulsa in the opening round and either Tennessee or Illinois in the second round. The Tar Heels will entertain NCAA Tournament teams Louisville and Ohio State in Chapel Hill this year and make a spring break trip to the Longhorn State where they will play TCU and the University of Texas.
Altogether, Coach Sam Paul's Tar Heels will play 12 of 23 matches against teams which qualified for the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Those opponents include 2012 NCAA finalist Virginia, Elite 8 participants Duke and Ohio State and Sweet 16 foes Illinois and Tulsa. Other teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year include Virginia Tech, VCU, Texas, Louisville, NC State, Tennessee and Florida State.
