General:  Two-year returning starter in the attack unit for Carolina...Face-off Yearbook preseason second-team All-America selection...tapped for coaches' preseason All-ACC Team...heads into his junior year ranked 37th in career points with 100, the most ever by a sophomore in UNC history...ranks 42nd all-time in Carolina history in goals with 58, the second most ever by a sophomore (behind Jimmy Bitter)...has a 21-game point scoring streak heading into his junior season...that's the 15th longest scoring streak in UNC history...has eight career hat tricks...has scored goals in 18 of the past 21 matches heading into the 2014 season.

2013 (Sophomore):  Had a tremendous sophomore year...named a third-team All-America by the USILA...also won All-ACC honors...tapped for All-ACC Academic Men's Lacrosse Team a second straight year...was second on the team in points with 56, a total matching the 16th most in a season in UNC history...was also second on the team in goals with 36, equaling the 12th most in a single season by a UNC player...tied for second on the team in assists with 20, matching the 38th highest total by a Tar Heel...had a 14-game goal scoring streak (2-8-13 through 4-26-13), matching the 10th longest streak in UNC history...played in 17 games, starting 16...had multi-goal games on 14 occasions...had 16 multi-point games and five multi-assist games...named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice - on March 12, 2013 (2 goals, 4 assists, 5 ground balls versus Princeton) and on March 26, 2013 (4 goals and 3 assists versus Dartmouth and four goals against #1 Maryland)...scored a career high four goals in three successive games against Dartmouth, Maryland and Brown...his seven points versus Dartmouth were a career high...was remarkably consistent throughout the season...started the year with three goals, an assist and four ground balls versus Air Force...had five points (4 goals, 1 assist) and five ground balls against Brown...scored twice and had five ground balls in overtime win versus Johns Hopkins...had a phenomenal ACC Tournament...had two goals, two assists and four ground balls in the semifinals versus Duke and three assists and a career high two caused turnovers in the final against Virginia...had three assists and four ground balls in NCAA first round win over Lehigh...tapped for 2012-13 ACC Academic Honor Roll.

2012 (Freshman):  Finished second on the team in points with 44...was second on the squad in assists with 22 and ranked third on the team in goals with 22...one of three UNC freshmen named to the 2012 All-ACC Tournament Team...honored as a 2012 All-ACC Academic Men's Lacrosse Team selection...shared the Jay Gallagher Award as the team's outstanding freshman with Chad Tutton and Jimmy Bitter...a 2011-12 ACC Academic Honor Roll selection...had seven multi-goal games, six multi-assist games and 11 multi-point games in his freshman year...played in all 17 games, starting 15 in the attack unit...had a season-high six points twice (against Mercer and against Duke in the regular-season game)...had three goals in a game four times (Mercer, Lehigh, Duke in the regular season and Maryland)...had six games with three assists (Mercer, both Duke games, both Virginia games and Denver)...had a season-high nine ground balls against Mercer...played two tremendous games in the ACC Tournament as he had two goals and three assists in the semifinals against Virginia and a goal and three assists against Duke in the finals.

Prep:  Played for coach Pat McDonough at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia...finished with 342 career points on 178 goals and 164 assists including 58 goals and 51 assists as a senior...also had 106 ground balls and 47 takeaways as a senior...named a 2011 Under Armour All-American and was tapped as the #6 rising senior by Inside Lacrosse Magazine...led team to Inter-Ac Tournament title game as a senior against Malvern...captain of lacrosse team his last two years...was a U.S. Lacrosse All-America in 2010 and 2011 as well as being named an All-State and All-InterAc League selection both years...he was the league's co-MVP as a senior...copped the team's MVP award as a junior...led his team in goals and assists in both 2008 and 2010 and in ground balls in 2010...his 50 goals and 48 assists powered Penn Charter to a state semifinal berth in 2008...had 48 goals and 46 assists as a junior and 22 goals and 19 assists as a sophomore...two-year honor roll student.

Personal:  Joseph Sam Sankey is the son of Harry and Sophie Sankey...was born in Februrary 1992 in Warminster, Pa. ...Strategic Communication major...two older brothers played college lacrosse - Harry at Widener, where he was a captain of the team, and Ryan at Cabrini.

The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is being part of a rich tradition and the Carolina family.
