Men Golfers Tied 5th At Seminole Invite

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -  The University of North Carolina men's golf team is tied for fifth place after the first round of the Seminole Intercollegiate.  The Tar Heels fired a 1-under-par 287 on Friday and were led by freshman Keagan Cummings who fired a 1-under 71.

Cummings, from Dublin, Ireland, carded four birdies and three bogies on the first day for his 1-under score and is tied for 13th place.  Four Tar Heels, Michael McGowan, Brandon Dalinka, Bailey Patrick and Andy Sajevic, fired an even par 72 and are tied for 26th place.  Dalinka, from Newtown, Pa., and Patrick, from Charlotte, N.C., both posted three birdies and three bogeys on Friday while McGowan, from Southern Pines, N.C., carded four birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey.  Sajevic, a junior from Fremont, Neb., posted four birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey while competing as an individual.  Andy Knox, a junior from Cary, N.C., shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 58th.

Host Florida State leads the field of 11 teams after firing an 11-under-par 277 in the first round.  Mississippi State is one stroke back in second place at 10-under 278.  Coastal Carolina is third at  8-under 280 while South Florida is fourth at 6-under 282 and Carolina and Ohio State are tied for fifth at 2-under 287.

Chase Koepka of South Florida grabbed the individual lead after firing seven birdies on his way to a 7-under 65 in the first round.  Daniel Berger of Florida State is two strokes back at 5-under 67.  Three players are tied for third place at 4-under 68 - Florida State's Hank Lebioda and Mississippi State's Axel Boasson and Joe Sakulpolphaisan.  There is also a three-way tie for sixth place between Coastal Carolina's Andrew Dorn and Mississippi State's Ben Wheeler and Robi Calvesbert.

The 54-hole event continues through Sunday at Southwood Golf Course which features a par 72, 7,172-yard layout.  In Saturday's second round the Tar Heels begin teeing off at 8:20 off the #1 tee.  Live scoring is available on
