DURHAM, N.C. - Two University of North Carolina golfers, Keagan Cummings and Andy Knox, tied for third place at The Heel-Devil Individual Championship. This event was to be a two-day, two-round tournament with no more than four individuals from each of the five participating schools. However, Saturday's first round at UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill was cancelled as the course was unplayable due to rain.
Cummings, from Dublin, Ireland, and Knox, from Cary, N.C., both fired a 1-over-par 73 Sunday at the Duke Golf Club, a par 72, 7,154-yard layout. Daniel Brantley of Charlotte won the event by firing a 1-under 71. Turner SoutheyGordon of Duke was the runner-up after shooting an even par 72. Raoul Menard of Charlotte and Motin Yeung of Duke tied for third place with Carolina's Cummings and Knox. Three players tied for seventh place at 3-over 75 - NC State's Chad Cox, Duke's Tim Gornik and Liberty's Harrison Winger. Wilson Day of NC State rounds out the top 10 with a 4-over 76.
The Tar Heel team returns to action March 11-12 at the Tiger Shootout in Opelika, Ala.
