Carolina Notes

• Carolina is 27-7 overall, 4-2 in neutral-site games.

• Carolina led by seven at the half and 61-48, but Duke went on a 20-4 run and out-scored the Tar Heels, 45-22, over the final, 13:39 to advance to the ACC Tournament championship game.

• It was the second time the schools have played in New York City and the fifth time they have played outside the state of North

Carolina. UNC is 2-3 in those games (1-1 in New York City, 1-2 in Atlanta).

• Carolina had won 14 in a row when leading at the half (led 49-42) and 14 in a row when scoring 80 or more points.

• Duke went 33 for 37 from the free throw line (61 for 72 in the last two games against UNC).

• The 33 free throws are the most ever against a Roy Williams’ UNC team (Wake Forest was 32 for 32 on 1/15/2005).

• The 37 attempts and the percentage (.892) are season highs by the opponents this year (previous were 35 attempts by Duke on 3/4 and 85.7 percent by Davidson on 12/7/2016).

• Duke made 19 more free throws than UNC. That’s the highest margin in a game this year by an opponent. Georgia Tech out-scored UNC 28-10 (+18) from the line on 12/31/2016.

• Carolina shot 55.6 percent from the floor in the first half and 28.6 percent in the second. It was the 16th time this year UNC has shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but the first time it shot under 40 percent in the following half. The previous low for the second half following a 50-percent effort in the first came in the second game of the season when UNC shot 54.8 percent in the first and 43.6 percent in the second vs. Chattanooga.

• Duke shot 58.8 percent from three-point range (10 of 17), the highest percentage from beyond the arc vs. UNC this season.

• The Blue Devils made 23 of 44 (.523) three-pointers in their two wins over UNC this year and 7 of 19 (.368) in Carolina’s win on 3/4.

• In the three game this year, Carolina made 19 more field goals than Duke (98-79), but the Blue Devils doubled the number of three-pointers (30-15) and made 34 more free throw (74-40). Duke out-scored UNC, 262-251, in the three games.

• The 93 points were the most points allowed by UNC in an ACC Tournament games since a 96-73 loss to Duke in the 1999 finals.

• Duke scored 1.19 points per possession, a season high against UNC this year. In the second half, Duke scored 51 points on 38 possessions (1.34, the second highest in a half by an opponent this year).

Tar Heel Player Notes

Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks led UNC with 19 points apiece. Meeks also had 12 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season (23rd career). He has 309 this year (28th time a Tar Heel has reached 300 in a season) and 983 career. He needs 17 for 1,000.

• Meeks scored 15 of his 19 in the first half (most points by Meeks in any half this year). He did not score a field goal in the final 13:52.

• Hicks scored 19 points for the second consecutive game in the ACC Tournament. He had 21 against Duke on March 4, 19 vs. Miami in the ACC quarterfinals and 19 vs. Duke in the semifinals.

• Hicks was 6 for 9 from the floor and 7 for 7 from the free throw line. He was 16 for 16 from the line in the two games in Brooklyn.

Justin Jackson (16) and Joel Berry (10) also scored in double figures for Carolina.

• Jackson was 6 for 22 from the floor. The 22 field goal attempts are a career high and the most by a Tar Heel this season. Only two other times in Roy Williams’ 14 years as head coach has a Tar Heel attempted more shots in a game.

• Jackson made three 3FGs and has 90 this season, the third most in a season in UNC history (95 by Shammond Williams in 1997 and 94 by Marcus Paige in 2015). Jackson has attempted 239 threes this year. He passed Paige (238 in 2015) for the most attempts ever in a season by a Tar Heel.

• Berry picked up his fourth foul with 15:04 to play with Carolina ahead 56-48. UNC extended its lead to 13 before the Blue Devils embarked on a 20-4 run.

Theo Pinson led UNC in assists with eight, which tied his career high and tied the season high by any Tar Heel.

• Pinson has led UNC in assists in each of the last five games and in eight of his 15 games this season.
