He went to Kansas after working 13 years as head coach and eight years as athletics director at Jenks (Okla.) High School. Holladay previously served as a prep coach in the Oklahoma towns of Norman, Bart-lesville, Tulsa, and Lindsay. In 1998 Holladay was inducted into the Oklahoma High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and in 2002 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Holladay was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the Major League Baseball Draft.
