2013 - Sophomore Season
Appeared in 11 games and started five at quarterback • Became the full-time starter after Bryn Renner's season-ending injury at NC State • Completed 107 of 184 pass for 1527 yards and 14 touchdowns • Finished with 490 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns • Also caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown • Rushed 16 times for a career-high 104 yards and two touchdowns against Duke • Became the first Tar Heel quarterback to rush for over 100 yards since Darian Durant in 2003 • Established a new school record for total offense with 469 yards against Old Dominion • Completed 20 of 27 passes for 409 yards and a record-tying five touchdowns • Also rushed five times for 60 yards • Completed 15 of 27 passes for 173 yards and rushed 15 times for 79 yards and two scores in the win at Pitt • Accounted for four touchdowns in the win over Virginia • Completed 15 of 28 passes for 185 yards and two scores, rushed 16 times for 46 yards and a touchdown and caught a 29-yard pass from Quinshad Davis in the win • Passed for 92 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 51 yards in the win at NC State • Rushed and passed for 55 yards and had a pair of touchdown (one rushing, one passing) in the win over Boston College • Rushed five times for 27 yards and completed 4 of 7 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown against Miami • Made his first career start at Virginia Tech and completed 23 of 35 passes for 277 yards and two scores • Also rushed 18 times for 56 yards • Tossed his second career touchdown pass against Middle Tennessee, a 15-yard scoring strike to Bug Howard • Also rushed twice for 10 yards and caught a 23-yard pass from A.J. Blue in the win over Blue Raiders • Had one carry for two yards in the season opener at No. 6 South Carolina.
2012 – Redshirt Freshman Season
Appeared in nine games in relief of Bryn Renner, completing 10 of 17 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown • Also rushed 29 times for 186 yards and three scores • Carried seven times for 40 yards with a season-long effort of 23 yards in the win at Virginia • Also competed one pass for four yards • Completed a 39-yard pass in the Duke game • Had the most prolific day of his career so far with three touchdowns against Idaho • Ran for a pair and threw for another • Finished the day with 10 carries for 61 yards on the ground to go with 57 yards and a score on 3-of-7 passing • Part of an offense that churned out a school-record 66 points against the Vandals • Rushed twice for 26 ayrds in the East Carolina win • Made his collegiate debut in the season opener against Elon, completing 5 of 6 passes for 27 yards • Also rushed six times for 43 yards and scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter • Redshirted in 2011 after enrolling that January.
