Sophomore Season (2012)
Second year as a starter on close defense for UNC • started four games at the beginning of the season before suffering a serious ankle injury early in the win over Marquette on September 7 • returned to action against Wake Forest on October 21 and then started all six games in the NCAA Tournament, playing all but 13 minutes in the post-season • overall, she played in 13 games, starting 10 and logging 1,023 minutes played • won the NCAA Elite 89 Award for having the highest grade point average of any player competing in the 2012 NCAA College Cup • earned mention on the Dean's List in both semesters of 2012-13 and was also tapped for the 2013 ACC Academic Honor Roll • was ranked in the top three on the team in five areas of the squad's core values program (tough, focused, resilient, positive, caring) • a Rising Star in the Carolina Leadership Academy.
Freshman Season (2011)
Had an exceptional freshman year after walking on the team in early August 2011 • did not see action early in the year but then started against UNCG on September 9 and played 52 minutes • a week later she logged 75 minutes versus NC State and then 67 minutes versus Virginia on Sept. 25 • she moved into the starting lineup for good on September 29 against Florida State and started the last 12 matches of the season • she played every minute the remainder of the campaign • finished with 1,369 minutes played • had the game-winning assist in a 1-0 victory at Boston College • named a CS360 Primetime Performer of the Week on November 15, 2011 after Carolina's first round NCAA win over William & Mary • named to the 2012 ACC Academic Honor Roll, the fall semester 2011 Dean's List and the 2012 spring semester Dean's List.
2011 alumna of East Chapel Hill High School • played varsity soccer all four years • played basketball until her senior year in high school • on the pitch she helped lead ECHHS to the state quarterfinals three out of four seasons • team captain as a senior • East Chapel Hill's Most Outstanding Player her senior year • named first-team All-Conference her sophomore through senior years • All-Region selection as a senior • co-editor-in-chief of high school newspaper, the ECHO • co-valedictorian of senior class • member of Spanish Honors Society.
Kristina Caitlin Ball is the daughter of Don Ball and Hannah Adams • was born December 20, 1992 in Raleigh, N.C. • has volunteered as a Special Olympics coach in soccer, basketball, swimming and track • both of her parents played college tennis, her mother at East Carolina for four years and her father at the Naval Academy and William & Mary • her grandmother was included in the first class of women to attend UNC, graduating in 1941 • lists Ultimate (Frisbee) as her second favorite sport • member of Champions for Christ and Outreach representative for the soccer team • has a double major in journalism and mass communication and political science.
