HOUSTON -- No. 1 North Carolina (9-0) used an 8-run fourth inning en route to an 11-5 win over California (4-6) on the second day of the Astros Foundation College Classic in Houston, Texas.

Freshman Landon Lassiter paced the Tar Heels at the plate with a 4-for-6 performance as Carolina scored 11 runs or more for the fourth time this season.

Junior Colin Moran chipped in a pair of hits, while adding a pair of RBIs. Michael Russell and Korey Dunbar each contributed two RBIs apiece in the win on Saturday.

Carolina starter Benton Moss lasted 5.2 innings as he struck out a season-high nine batters, while surrendering three runs, two of which were earned to improve to 3-0.

The Tar Heels fell behind in the first with the Golden Bears pushing across an unearned run to take an early lead.

Carolina was held in check by Cal starter Jake Schulz until the top of the fourth when UNC sent 13 batters to the plate and were able to take the lead with an eight-run inning. The Tar Heels tallied six hits and drew three walks for their fifth inning of six runs or more this season.

The Tar Heels would add on three more runs in the top of the fifth inning when Colin Moran narrowly missed a home run with a blast into the right center field gap.

Moran would score a pair of Tar Heels with the double before coming around to score on a balk.

Carolina's bullpen would falter in the sixth inning allowing California to claw back within six with a four-run inning.

Shane Taylor would end the threat in the sixth thanks to a diving play by Skye Bolt in right field.

Chris McCue would deliver a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen to put a cap on UNC's ninth win of the season.

Carolina will look to make it 10-0 to start the year for just the third time since 2000 on Sunday when the Tar Heels face Texas A&M at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET in UNC's final game of the Astros Foundation College Classic.
