Release: 04/24/2013

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Tar Heels closed out their 2013 home slate with a 7-3 victory over UNC Greensboro Wednesday, improving to 37-13 (12-6) on the season.

Led by Constance Orr's three RBIs and Lori Spingola's strong appearance in the circle, Carolina ends the regular season with a 23-2 mark at Anderson Stadium after Wednesday's win.

Kristen Brown got things started for the Tar Heels in the opening frame with a single up the middle, advancing to second on a ground out. Haleigh Dickey drew a walk, and Amber Parrish was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jenna Kelly, who was also hit by a pitch to force a run for Carolina's first run.

In the second, Erin Satterfield singled through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Elisha Elliott singled to shortstop, advancing Satterfield to third before Brown drew a walk to load the bases. A single to left field by Aquilla Mateen drove in Satterfield, and then Dickey followed with a sac fly to score Elliott. Parrish drew a walk, and a single through the right side by Orr drove in Mateen and Brown. Kelly was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again, and Covert scored on a passed ball while running for Parrish to give Carolina the 6-0 lead.

The Spartans ended the shutout in the fourth, as Eileen Horsmon drew a walk and advanced to second on a bunt single by Tatiana Alcala. A single by Danielle Vega to right field loaded the bases for Nicole Thomas, who drew a walk and pushed a run across the plate to make it 6-1.

Lindsay Thomas got things going for the Spartans in the top of the fifth with a single up the middle. A double to right field by Katelyn Bedwell advanced Thomas to third before Horsmon singled up the middle to score Thomas. Vega then singled to left center to drive Bedwell for the 6-3 score.

The Tar Heels added one last run in the bottom of the sixth when Orr hit her 14th homer of the season, a solo shot out over right center.

Spingola fanned seven while giving up eight hits in six innings for the win. Ashley Bone spent one inning in the circle, surrendering four hits and two walks while striking out one.
