CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina claimed its largest dual win over rival NC State since 1997 with a 30-6 win Friday night in Carmichael Arena.

The Tar Heels notched four major decisions and a tech fall en route to matching the second-largest dual meet win over NC State in the series history. The 1997 squad also posted a 30-6 win over the Wolfpack.

No. 7 Nathan Kraisser opened the night with his 11th dual win of the season as he used three back points in the final period to secure an 8-3 decision over Joe DeAngelo at 125 lbs.

Freshman Joey Ward and NC State's Sam Speno each registered an escape in the second the third periods but nothing else at 133 lbs forcing a sudden victory period. The 19th-ranked Ward claimed the takedown midway through the sudden victory session to boost UNC's lead to 6-0.

At 141 lbs, No. 6 Evan Henderson claimed his 28th win of the season as he claimed a narrow, 3-2, decision over NC State's Tyler Hunt. Henderson's win pushed Carolina in front, 9-0.

Carolina added four team points at 149 lbs as redshirt freshman Christian Barber used a big second period to take an 8-2 lead to the third period. Barber added a takedown with 10 seconds left in the third period to add a riding time point and a 12-4 major decision.

NC State's Matt Nereim snapped the Carolina string of victories with an 11-8 decision at 157 pounds as he bested UNC's Chris Mears.

Redshirt freshman John Staudenmayer claimed the most impressive win of the night at 165 lbs as he knocked off Nijel Jones, 12-1, to claim a major decision. The win was an upset in the rankings as Jones checked in at No. 21 in the first coaching rankings, nine spots ahead of Staudenmayer.

Carolina's lead was extended to 21-3 after redshirt sophomore Tanner Eitel added the third major of the night in a 10-2 major decision over Patrick Davis.

The sophomore duo of Alex Utley and Frank Abbondanza helped to push Carolina's lead to 30-3 on the back of a tech fall and a major decision.

Utley cruised to a 19-3 tech fall over Keegan Cerwinski at 184 lbs as he notched the 16-point advantage just five seconds into the third period.

Abbondanza pitched a shutout at 197 lbs with a 10-0 win over Josh Lackey for the major decision.

NC State's Mike Kosoy claimed a 6-2 decision at heavyweight over Cody Klempay to provide the final margin of 30-6.
