CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - On senior night in Chapel Hill, the North Carolina volleyball team built on an undefeated home season with a 3-0 win over Virginia. The Tar Heels improved to 24-5 overall and 15-4 in ACC play behind a stellar team effort.
"What a great match it was for senior night in all aspects," UNC head coach Joe Sagula said. "The team played very well and very efficiently, and all of our seniors performed at a very high level tonight."
"This was all about the team. We had 15 players play in these two matches this weekend. That just goes to show we have a lot of depth, and we really have a great team," Sagula said.
McGee led the charge in the opening set, logging six kills while hitting .364. Carolina had four different runs of three straight points and held the Cavaliers to a .074 hitting percentage as a team. McGee secured the opening set with a kill to give the Tar Heels a 25-18 win. UNC had four aces in the first frame from McGee, Harms, and sophomores Lauren Adkins and Ece Taner.
The Tar Heels continued their strong play into set two, hitting a dominant .583 attack with no errors in the 25-17 win. McGee recorded four more kills and a block, while Henry and freshman Paige Neuenfeldt had three kills each. Neuenfeldt also added three blocks, and sophomore Chaniel Nelson had two.
North Carolina rolled to a 25-17 final set win, as Neuenfeldt, Gaffen, Henry each had three kills and freshman Heather Gearhart had two aces. Harms had five digs, and Taner and freshman Leigh Andrew had four apiece.
