CHAPEL HILL - Coming off of a victory in its exhibition game, the JV Tar Heels were looking to take away another big win and got one, 86-76 over Milligan on Friday.
An accelerated first half displayed the kind of game the team was looking for, with the Tar Heels in the lead 41-28 at the break.
The same could not be said for the second half of the game as Milligan, a heavy three-point shooting team, closing the double-digit gap between it and the Tar Heels. Coach C.B. McGrath said that the team's mindset was not as focused.
It was up to the four veteran members of the team to put a spark back into the team. Sophomore Sasha Seymore was readily available to take the position of leader on the court. A second-year player, Sasha picked up the pace for the team, scoring 26 points in his 25 minutes of playing time and was 10-for-16 shooting. Sophomore Quinton Wimbish added 11 points to the Tar Heels' score.
"Last week, Learie and Kyle stepped up as leaders, and I guess it was my turn to do so this week," Sasha said.
Despite the setbacks early on in the second half, the Tar Heels were able to pull out a win with the score being 86-76.
"We have a shootaround practice tomorrow. We need to give one hundred percent in practice and bring that to Sunday's game," Sasha said.
The Tar Heels face Wake Tech on Sunday at 11:30 AM in the Dean E. Smith Center.
