CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - A total of six senior members of the 2017 University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team were chosen this past Sunday in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Draft. The draft was conducted on Sunday in Boston in conjunction with NCAA championship weekend for men's and women's lacrosse at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels.
Senior defenseman Austin Pifani was the first Tar Heel taken in the draft as he was chosen in the second round by the New York Lizards with the 14th overall pick.
The next Tar Heel taken in the draft was senior short-stick defensive midfielder Tate Jozokos who was selected in the fourth round by the Denver Outlaws as the 36th overall pick.
Shortly after that, senior attackman Luke Goldstock was chosen in the early stages of the fifth round, chosen by the Boston Cannons at the 41st overall pick.
Senior midfielder and face-off man Stephen Kelly was chosen by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the sixth round of the draft. He was the 48th overall pick.
In round seven, graduate student and first-unit offensive midfielder Michael Taglaiferri was taken with the 55th pick of the draft by the Florida Launch.
Round nine of the draft saw the sixth Tar Heel taken as senior short-stick midfielder Brett Bedard became the second Tar Heel taken by the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Bedard was the 75th pick overall in the draft.
