Four Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – Nicole Greene, Sarah Howard, Daniel McArthur and Zay Paschall earned All-ACC honors on Friday at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Atlanta. Greene and Howard earned first-team All-ACC honors while McArthur and Paschall earned second-team honors.

Greene cleared 5-11 ½ (1.82 meters) in the high jump, but had more misses than Eleonora Omoregie from Florida State who also bowed out after clearing 5-11 ½. Greene had three chances at 6-0 ¾ (1.85 meters), but couldn't clear the height and settled for second place.

Howard earned another All-ACC honor in her decorated Carolina career. Howard finished third in the women's shot put with a best throw of 55-8 ¼ (16.97 meters). It was Howard's fourth first-team All-ACC honor in the shot put.

McArthur threw a career-best 62-8 ½ (19.11 meters) to take fourth in the men's shot put. The freshman's throw went 18 inches farther than his previous career best.

Paschall earned second-team All-ACC honors in the men's long jump after finishing fifth. Paschall was in ninth after the prelims, but jumped four spots to fifth on his fifth attempt. The sophomore jumped 24-0 ¾ (7.33 meters) to earn his first All-ACC honor.

Emily Godwin tied for seventh in the women's high jump clearing 5-5 ¾ (1.67 meters).

Will Eskew finished the decathlon in ninth place, but closed the competition extremely well by posting the fastest time in the 1,500m at 4:39.22. He finished the competition with 5,507 points.

On the track, Carolina qualified Ceo Ways into the 400m final with the second best time at 46.47. It was Ways' first race of the year, but the senior posted a solid 46.47 time and will look to defend his 400m title.

Cierra Dunston just missed qualifying for the final of the 400m by 0.07 seconds. Dunston finished ninth after running a season-best 53.69.

Blake Dodge also missed the final of her event by one spot. Dodge finished ninth in the 800m and was 0.12 seconds away from qualifying.

The third and final day of competition will begin at 2 p.m. with the men's high jump. Competition on the track will begin at 5:03 p.m. with the women's 4x100m relay.
