#3 UNC Faces Miami, FSU This Weekend

After a two week departure from conference play, the third-ranked North Carolina women’s tennis team is on the road this weekend to face ACC rivals Miami and Florida State on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Carolina (16-1, 3-0) puts its eight-match winning streak on the line beginning Friday against Miami at 4 p.m. in Coral Gables, Florida. The rematch of the 2016 ACC Tournament final won by the Tar Heels will be carried on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app, as part of the USTA College MatchDay series.

UNC has won the last six head-to-head meetings with Miami (4-5, 3-1) going back to 2014. The Hurricanes opened league action with three wins, but was upended 5-2 at No. 11 Georgia Tech on Tuesday in their last match.

Carolina features five ranked singles players: No. 2 Hayley Carter, No. 4 Sara Daavettila, No. 24 Jessie Aney, No. 33 Alexa Graham and No. 78 Makenna Jones.

The Tar Heels also have the top ranked doubles team in Aney and Carter.

No. 29 Miami boasts a pair of ranked singles competitors: No. 7 Sinead Lohan and No. 66 Estela Perez-Somarriba. In doubles, Silvia Fuentes and Yolimar Ogando check in 73rd among 80 ranked teams.

Florida State (8-6, 1-3) fell out of the national rankings after being upended 5-2 to unranked Penn last Sunday, March 12 in Tampa, Florida. The Seminoles have the No. 56 doubles team of Nandini Das and Ariana Rahmanparast.

UNC and FSU face off Sunday in Tallahassee at 12 p.m.

Carolina returns home for a four-match home stand beginning with Virginia Tech on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
